African Americans footprints in the Jockey world:

African Americans influencial success during the Civil War and turn of the century in horse racing goes generally unnoticed. African Americans have always been present in the horse racing world; weather they were trainers, owners or jockeys. 15 of the first 28 Kentucky Derby's were won by black jockeys and 5 were trained by black trainers. After the turn of the century, "racing started to become a higher profile sport, and blacks were mostly seen only as stable help". Although African Americans may have faded away from the horse racing world, their notable accomplishments are undeniable.
